Heidelberg. ‘City of Romance’. But also ‘City of the Blueberry’ [german: Heidelbeere] – especially, if one is inclined to believe a popular theory, stating the town’s name was derived from the plant with the small blue fruits, which once so prominently populated the Odenwald forest, surrounding the settlement. This is further substantiated among other things by the fact, that the sigil of the University of Heidelberg – the very oldest in all of Germany – is decorated with branches of the blueberry plant. “Heidelbeerg” is picking up on this thesis, by bringing the
“Heidelbeere” back to Heidelberg. Not as a tongue-twister, but rather as a delicious delight for those with an acquired taste.
